    Electrode Placement
The size of the electrodes - large or small - and their placement on the muscle group to be stimulated are essential elements for the comfort and effectiveness of the work you do.
Therefore, we recommend that you always take special care and follow the recommended placements. To view the different electrode placement possibilities, click here.
In a stimulation with Mi-sensor, all the recommended placements will propose optimal positioning. Therefore, we recommend that you strictly follow these instructions. If you do not want to use Mi technology, simply replace the sensor cable with another standard cable.

    stimulation position
The stimulation position depends on the muscle group you want to stimulate. The different proposed positions are clearly indicated with pictograms placed next to the electrode placement drawings.
For programs that produce very visible muscle contractions, it is recommended to work isometrically, which means that the ends of the limb should be fixed so that there is no movement. For example, during the stimulation of the quadriceps, the person will sit with the ankles fixed, thus preventing the extension of the knees.
Working in this way allows stimulation in complete safety. On the other hand, this makes it possible to limit the shortening of the muscle during contraction and therefore avoid the risks of cramps that could arise from this. When working the calves, the extension of the foot will occur, so it is advisable to place a load on the shoulders or support yourself in some way so that this extension does not occur and the contraction is static.
Unless there are specific indications relating to a particular program, work will not be done dynamically without resistance.
For programs in the Vascular, Pain Relief Massage, and Active Recovery categories, which do not produce powerful muscle contractions, position yourself as comfortably as possible.

    Intensity/energy adjustment
When we stimulate a muscle, the number of fibers that work depends on the stimulation energy.
Therefore, high stimulation energies must be used in order to recruit the largest possible number of muscle fibers. Below a high stimulation energy, the result obtained will be minimal. Indeed, the number of fibers recruited in the stimulated muscle is too low to allow a significant improvement in the performance of said muscle.
The improvement of a stimulated muscle will be greater the higher the number of fibers that work. If only a very small amount of fibers is stimulated, only those fibers will progress, however if we stimulate a much higher amount, many more fibers will progress and we will obtain a better result.
Therefore, you must work with maximum stimulation energies, that is, always at the maximum bearable intensity.
Of course, it is not about reaching the maximum stimulation energy from the first day of use. Anyone who has never previously practiced Compex stimulation will do a few sessions of the Muscle Initiation program, with an energy capable of producing powerful muscle contractions, to get used to electrostimulation. Subsequently, he can start his first stimulation cycle with his specific program and level. After the warm-up, which should produce clear muscle twitches, the stimulation energy must be progressively increased, from contraction to contraction, during the first three or four minutes of the work sequence. You also have to advance in the energies used from session to session, especially during the first three sessions of a cycle. From the fourth session onwards, it is common for a user of medium build to reach quite high energies.

    Session planning
Planning the stimulation sessions during the week is planned from the moment in which 2 weekly training sessions are carried out.
If up to 6 sessions per week are planned, it is recommended to separate these sessions as much as possible. For example, the person who carries out 3 weekly sessions will do them at a rate of 1 session every 2 days (work every other day). Whoever carries out 6 sessions will carry out 6 days of stimulation and 1 day of rest.
From 7 sessions per week or more, it is advisable to group several sessions on the same day, to gain one or two days of complete rest without stimulation. Those who carry out 7 sessions per week will do 5 days of stimulation, at a rate of 1 session a day, and one day do 2 sessions in a row (spaced at least by a half hour of rest); In this way, there will be 1 day of rest. Those who carry out 10 sessions per week will preferably do 5 days with two sessions a day (spaced at least by a half hour of rest); In this way, there will be 2 days of rest.
Important: Do not use 2 work programs on the same muscle group.

    Session/training alternation
Stimulation sessions can be done before, after or during voluntary training.
When voluntary training and stimulation are carried out during the same session, it is generally recommended to perform the voluntary training first and then the electrostimulation, thus, the voluntary training will not be done on an already fatigued muscle. This is especially important for strength and explosive strength training.
From seven sessions per week or more, it is advisable to group several sessions on the same day, to gain one or two days of complete rest without stimulation. Those who carry out seven sessions per week will do five days of stimulation, at a rate of one session a day, and one day with two consecutive sessions (spaced at least by a half hour of rest); In this way, there will be one day of rest. Those who carry out ten sessions per week will preferably do five days with two sessions a day (spaced at least by a half hour of rest); In this way, there will be two days of rest.

    Progression in levels
In general, it is not advisable to increase levels quickly to reach the highest level as soon as possible.
The different levels correspond to a progression in training, and the muscles must be given the necessary time to adapt, thus allowing overcompensation to occur.
The most common mistake is to go from level to level as we use higher stimulation energies. The number of fibers that undergo stimulation depends on the intensity/energy of stimulation; On the other hand, the nature and amount of work carried out by these fibers depend on the program and the level. The goal is to first progress in stimulation intensities/energies, and then in levels. And the more fibers are stimulated, the more fibers will progress. But the speed of progress of these fibers, as well as their ability to function at a higher regime, depends on the program and level used, the number of weekly sessions, the duration of said sessions and the intrinsic characteristics of the user.
The simplest and most common thing is to raise the level in the chosen program when moving to a new stimulation cycle.
You can also raise a level during the same cycle, in which case it is advisable not to do so before working at least three weeks with the same level.
The level is not changed during sporadic use or maintenance. Nor is the level changed in a short intense or aggressive cycle of three to four weeks. On the contrary, in classic use, during a six-week cycle, you can go to the higher level after three weeks. Likewise, in an intense or aggressive cycle of six to eight weeks, you can increase one level after three or four weeks.

    Using warm-up
All programs that produce significant contractions (tetanic contractions) to the stimulated muscles automatically begin with a warm-up sequence, which is reflected on the screen by smoke above a radiator.
When no voluntary physical activity has been carried out in the minutes prior to the stimulation session, it is recommended to warm up. If the stimulation session is included in voluntary training and a voluntary activity immediately precedes the stimulation, it will not be necessary to carry out the warm-up sequence. Eliminate smoke from the radiator: the session will start in the specific program chosen, without prior warm-up.
After the stimulation work sequence, a relaxation sequence will automatically begin, which will improve the recovery of a muscle after working with the Compex and alleviate, to a certain extent, muscle soreness. If you do not want to immediately move on to voluntary training phases, it is advisable to perform the last sequence. It is also recommended to stretch the muscles you have just worked with the Compex, just as we would do at the end of a voluntary training session.
